Another Fall Classic in the books and it was a really great event. We had 40 teams with players from Arizona, California, Washington and England. The weather was absolutely perfect with no wind, blue skies and temperatures in mid 70’s. All three golf courses were in great shape thanks to our wonderful maintenance crew.
Dave and Jim beat out the other flight winner teams. The teams of Rick and Ryan Younger, Jerry McVay/Scott Jones and Tim Cates/Ian Walton-George came up a little short of the title after qualifying for the playoff by winning their respective flights. Three of the flights were so close that the last day of competition were decided on the last 3 – 4 holes.
This year we had $7,400 awarded to the four flight winners for first, second, third and fourth place. With another $500 awarded to our Grand Champion Team. 36 teams took home some money – 90% of the field!
We also awarded another $5800 on side game prizes which included daily KP’s, net and gross skins, a chipping and putting contest and of course the insane Horse Race that took place on the Challenge course. The Horse Race is a player favorite with lots of heckling to try and disturb your opponent. Of course, this event is supported heavily by the Bev Cart and the local cigar house.
A special thanks to Bo and staff of the Niblicks Restaurant for our dinner on the last day. The pulled pork, beans and cole slaw exceeded our expectations.
Thanks to the proshop team for their great job of running the chipping/putting contest, Horse Race, and the daily coordination with the details to make each day a smooth, transparent event. Thank-you to Ron, Kevin, Issac and Jimmy.
Again, we had a lot of help from a group of Ladies, Debi, Bonnie, Sue, Doris, Pati and Judy. They covered check-in, raffle, hole-in-one witnessing and scorecard collection.
Finally, a big thanks to our Fall Classic committee who put on this event. Steve Laurin and Ron Shoquist for soliciting our raffle prizes, Mike Bessonette for arranging the Hole-in-one prizes, Mike Corwin for coordinating our tee prizes. a big thanks to Dave Miller for taking care of the money and stuffing all of those envelops with the correct cash. The golf genius scoring team of Eric Erickson, Chris Erickson, Jill Erickson, Debbie Stevens and Ron Cox allowed to get the scores in the system and audited to ensure everyone left with the final results and money. As usual, Eric Erickson spent many hours and long nights doing a tremendous job with all the golf genius scheduling, tee sheets and results.
It makes a great event when we have the players of our Men’s Club support the tournament. See you next year.
